GRADING:
80% = Behavior, Effort, Affective (Participation, Preparation, Sportsmanship), Psychomotor (Skills)
20% = Assessments (Fitness Test, Unit Tests)
All students receive four marking period grades for Physical Education and one marking period grade for Health. Their Physical Education grade will be determined by the following criteria:
Affective:
Participation: A students daily effort and performance in class are important factors in determining their grade.
Preparedness: A student is required to have appropriate athletic sneakers. A student who does not have proper foot attire, will not earn all of his/her credit for the day.
Sportsmanship: Students are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship. Those who do not will not earn his/her credit for the day.
Psychomotor:
Skill Development: Physical Skills: A student is evaluated on their ability to perform a prescribed number of skills or tasks at a given level during each unit. Personal skills are subjective to their daily effort, how they progress, their interest, and their attitude during a given unit.
Behavior:
Students will be expected to model exemplary behavior, have a positive attitude, and follow classroom rules/ policies.
Effort:
Students will participate in class activities, show self motivation, and a desire to improve their overall health.
Knowledge:
Students will be evaluated on their knowledge retention of each unit they participated in within class. These can be the activities rules, identifying equipment used, various strategies, etc...
Being prepared for Physical Education:
Make sure you have athletic sneakers (no crocs, uggs, boots, etc...)
***Make sure they are sneakers that you can crease, get dirty, and tie.
Why We Don't Wear Crocs in PE:
For your safety and to help you perform your best, Crocs and other similar footwear are not allowed during PE class.
Here’s why:
They're a tripping hazard: Crocs can easily slip off your feet, especially during quick movements, running, or jumping. This can cause you to trip and fall, potentially leading to a sprained ankle, a scraped knee, or worse.
They offer no support: Unlike athletic shoes, Crocs lack the stability and ankle support needed for physical activity. This can put unnecessary strain on your feet and joints, increasing the risk of injury.
They don't protect your feet: Your toes and the top of your foot are exposed in Crocs, leaving them vulnerable to getting stepped on, something heavy like a weight getting dropped on them, or hit by a ball.
We require athletic shoes with laces or Velcro because they are designed to stay securely on your foot, protect you from impact, and provide the support you need to run, jump, and play safely. This rule is in place to protect everyone and make sure we can all enjoy PE without worrying about injuries. If you have any questions about what shoes are appropriate, just ask!
Medical Excuse from Physical Education:
Sitting out for PE: A note or email from a parent will only excuse the student for the day. If longer than three days please provide a medical note from a doctor.
Food & Drinks:
No food, chewing gum, candy of any kind, glass bottles or containers, are permitted in the locker rooms or gymnasium. Do not bring these items into Physical Education class. Plastic water bottles are permitted as stated in the student code of conduct.
Injury:
If you get hurt, it must be reported to your teacher immediately so that appropriate action can be taken.
Use of Physical Education Equipment:
Please help us maintain our equipment by using it responsibly and safely.
