We aim to provide each student with at least two weeks’ meaningful work experience (or an equivalent programme). We prepare students with CV workshops and vet employers using a structured QA process to keep students safe and to ensure learning outcomes. Title: Work Experience Policy
Purpose: To provide all pupils with meaningful experience of the workplace that supports their career development, improves employability skills, and helps inform future learning and training choices.
Guarantee : Southborough High School aims to provide each student with at least two weeks’ meaningful work experience, or an equivalent programme of employer engagement, by the end of Year 13. Where individual circumstances prevent a placement, an alternative tailored package of employer encounters, simulated workplace experiences or college-based Taster sessions will be provided.
Key points:
Placements are organised by the students in partnership with employers, parents and careers team. Students will be supported through preparation workshops, safeguarding checks and reflective tasks.
Employers are vetted using our Employer QA Checklist (published on the Careers Hub). All placements require employer confirmation of adequate supervision and health & safety compliance.
SEND students or students with vulnerabilities receive tailored placements and 1:1 support as required.

Year 8 Sons to work day.
Year 10: Work Experience Preparation (CV, interview skills) — Taster days in Year 10 and Careers week and placements arranged for Year 12
Parents and employers receive guidance packs. Employers should contact the Careers Lead to offer placements.
Safeguarding & insurance:
All placements must meet DBS / safeguarding and H&S checks as set out in the Employer QA Checklist. The school’s insurance covers school-organised placements; employers must confirm employer liability insurance.
