The Gatsby Benchmarks

At Southborough High School, we are committed to providing high-quality careers education to help every young person make informed, confident decisions about their future. Effective careers guidance is not only vital for individual success but also plays a key role in promoting social mobility—especially for students who may not have access to extensive networks or support outside of school.

The Gatsby Benchmarks set out a framework of eight key areas that define what good careers guidance looks like in schools. These benchmarks guide our careers strategy and ensure we offer a comprehensive, inclusive programme for all students.

We use Compass+, a careers planning and evaluation tool, to audit our progress against the benchmarks each term. This allows us to monitor our development, identify areas for improvement, and compare our performance with local and national data.
