Helping every student achieve their ambitions
At Southborough, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to explore, plan, and prepare for a fulfilling future. Our SEND Careers Support programme is designed to ensure that students with additional needs receive the guidance, opportunities, and encouragement they need to take confident steps toward adulthood and employment.
Our careers provision for students with SEND includes:
Personalised 1:1 careers guidance meetings with staff trained in SEND
Support with CV writing, job applications, and interview preparation
Advice on supported internships, traineeships, and apprenticeships
Help accessing inclusive courses at local colleges and universities
Tailored work experience opportunities
Participation in inclusive career fairs and employer visits
Travel training and support with developing independence skills
We work closely with students, families, and external agencies to build a plan that supports each individual’s needs, aspirations, and strengths.
SEND students at Southborough are supported to explore a wide range of inclusive post-16 and post-18 options, including:
Mainstream college courses with additional support
Supported internships and foundation learning
Apprenticeships and traineeships
Paid employment with workplace adjustments (e.g., Access to Work)
Volunteering and community placements
University study with specialist provision
We work with local providers and services to make sure every student has a suitable and accessible pathway after school.
Careers planning is part of our wider transition programme, including:
Year 9 EHCP Review: Focus on options and preparing for KS4
Year 11 Planning: Post-16 applications and visits to colleges or training providers
Year 13 Guidance: Post-18 options including employment, apprenticeships, or further study
We ensure that the outcomes from EHCP reviews are linked with career and independence goals.
