At Southborough High School, our careers education programme is a carefully structured, age-appropriate journey that supports students from Year 7 through to Year 13. It is designed to inspire ambition, broaden horizons, and provide the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions about the future.
Our curriculum is built around the Gatsby Benchmarks and the CDI Framework, ensuring it meets national expectations while remaining responsive to the needs of our students and local community.
Key Features:
Year 7–9 (Exploration and Self-discovery): Students begin exploring personal strengths, interests, and aspirations. Activities focus on raising awareness of the world of work, local industries, and the skills employers value. Careers education is embedded in PDT, form time, and subject lessons.
Year 10–11 (Pathway Planning): The focus shifts to decision-making, employability skills, and post-16 pathways. Students engage in mock interviews, work experience, CV writing, and 1:1 careers guidance. They are fully supported as they prepare for sixth form, college, apprenticeships, or employment.
Year 12–13 (Futures & Transitions): Sixth Form students receive tailored support through UCAS guidance, apprenticeship and job application workshops, employer talks, alumni mentoring, and university visits. We work closely with tutors and parents to ensure every student has a clear plan and the tools to achieve it.
Our Commitment:
Regular access to independent, impartial careers advice.
Ongoing employer engagement through talks, workplace visits, and mentoring.
A focus on skills for life: communication, problem-solving, adaptability, and leadership.
A collaborative approach involving teachers, parents, and local employers.
A well-mapped programme that is evaluated annually to drive improvement and meet the evolving demands of the labour market.
