Project Descriptions
Zentangle Names: Students learned how to draw their names in block or bubble letters. For the background, students reviewed different types of lines and shapes to make a zentangle pattern. Inside their names students used blending, gradient, and shading techniques with colored pencils.
Faux-Shibori Pillows: students learned how to create their own faux-Shibori "tie-dye" using colored permanent marker and rubbing alcohol. 4th grade artists learned how to thread a needle, tie knots, and complete two stitches: running stitch and whip stitch. Students had to hand sew one edge of their pillow after they were stuffed.
Wayne Thiebaud Inspired Cakes and Pies: we discussed the Pop Art movement and looked at paintings by artist Wayne Thiebaud (who recently celebrated his 100th birthday). Students learned how to draw realistic desserts using oil pastels.
Geode Paintings (Miss Cassidy and Mrs. Reffel's homerooms only): before winter break, a few classes learned about how geode stones are created and made their own using markers, a wet paintbrush, and glitter.
Radial Printmaking: 4th graders created their own radial design using styrofoam printing plates. Students had to create 4 prints that rotated to reveal their radial design- many of which look like something of their choice or were made with patterns of lines and shapes.
