Since independence the population is growing rapidly, hence it adds to labour force as aresult of insufficient economic development additional labour force is not absorbed in secondary and tertiary sector. Thus consequently unemployment is increasing.
Due to law of inheritance land is divided, sub divided and fragmented, as a result many land holdings have become uneconomic. They cannot support their families and as result the owners of such land are forced to memain idle or underemployed.
Migration of rural population in search of job has been continuous. This is increased the number of unemployment in urban areas.
The economic plans have failed to lay emphasis on creating job opportunities in urban areas.
India is a developing economy. Its economic growth rate is low as a result it cannot absorb the growing labour force. Because of this the backlog of unemployment is rising year after year.
There has been a tremendous growth of intitutions providing higher education . As a result the number of educated persons is increasing at a rapid rate. While there is absence of suitable job available for them. This is caused due to lack of manpower planning , lack of dignity of labour , absence of entrepreneurial qualities and lack of professional and vocational guidance.
