In AD 1611, Jahangir married Nur Jahan . She was the widow of Ali Quli who was a persian traveller, She and Jahangir were to marry but Akbar refused their proposal and Akbar only made Nur jahan marry Ali Quli; Historians also believe that Jahangir played a prt in the death of Ali Quli.
Nur Jahan was a time ahead women in that era she did many things like writing poetry,hunting,designed clothes and jewellery and a generous person. She was also very ambitious and dominated the affairs of the state. Nur Jahan's father, Itmaduddaulah , and her brother asaf Khan , were soon given of the highest positions in the government. Her brother's daughter , who came to be callled as Mumtaz Mahal, was married to Prince Khurram ( Shah Jahan)
Nur Jahan introduced the system of Nazar or gifts which nobles had to be give to the emperor to seek favours . This practice encouraged bribery and corruption.
