Punjab,India’s gateway,was in the hands of of the Afghan governor,Daulat Khan Lodi ,who had declared his independence from the Delhi. Sultanate ,like governors of Sindh ,Multan,Jaunpur and Bengal . The rulers of Mewar,Malwa,Gujarat and Khandesh no longer owed allegiance to the Sultanate in Delhi. In the Deccan and the south,the Bahamani kingdom and the mighty kingdom of Vijaynagar functioned independently.
The internal struggles of the nobility had also considerably weakened the authority of the sultan of Delhi, Ibrahim Lodi. It was in the condition of disunity and discord that the Mughals invade India.
