Akbar was succeeded by his son Prince Salim who took the title of Jahangir or 'one who siezes the world' Jahangir inherited one of the finest empires in the world. He continued Akbar's policy of the expansion of Mughal Empire. He reached a lenient settlement with the Rana of Udaipur , who had only to accept his over - lordship .
During the first half of his reign , Jahangir's eldest son , Khusrau rebelled against his father by plundering the area around Lahore . Khusrau was imprisoned . The fifth Sikh guru , Arjan Dev was beheaded for aiding Khusrau in his rebellion . This incident sparked off a long and a bitter struggle between the sikhs and the Mughals.
