A new version of this site was created, following the June 24 Bylaws update. This is now the ARCHIVED site.
Using the "Insert" menu at right, use this page to include professional work that has been completed or is in press. Other forms of work (works in progress, revise-and-resubmit, works under review, etc.) may be discussed in your self report but should not be included here with completed work.
From the by-laws: "Materials Documenting Scholarly Professional and/or Creative Activities may include:
scholarly publications
papers presented at professional meetings
articles on creative and intellectual topics in journals, magazines, or newspapers
documentation of exhibitions, creations, performances, and presentations
writings on educational issues; textbooks and other books of an intellectual character authored or edited by the person
documentation concerning the development and organization of scholarly symposia, conferences, or other events that enhance the intellectual life at or outside the College and concerning addresses delivered at such events
consulting or adjudicating reports of a professional nature and reviews of professional work
external grant proposals; information concerning study or training that expands the competence of the faculty member into new areas
information regarding other expressions of continuing professional involvement and growth
other information that the faculty member deems pertinent"
If available, your department's statement on scholarly and/or creative expectations for promotion should also be included on this page.
That depends on whether you're on a traditional evaluation clock or if you've negotiated time toward tenure.
Broadly speaking, SMCM evaluations for tenure and promotion are reflections of research/creative productivity while employed here at the College. Consequently, both the "research" section of the self-report and the "Scholarly and/or Creative Materials" section of the file should emphasize the accomplishments during this time. Only those completed during time employed at the College will "count" toward departmental expectations for research at each level of formal evaluation.
Of course, it's often the case that on-going projects provide important context for current work; in that case, the candidate should certainly feel free to discuss previously-completed works in the self-report for the sake of clarity.
If you've negotiated time toward tenure, you're permitted to include works completed in the same number of years you've been accelerated toward review. For example, if a candidate has two years toward tenure, the candidate may include any scholarly/creative works completed within two years before hire.
