Brightspace is Simcoe Muskoka Catholic's official VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) however educators can still use Google Classroom if they prefer. Students can access Google Classroom from the landing page of Brightspace when the log into a computer or Chromebook.

Over the course of this year Education Assistants will be receiving Chromebooks. They are designed to work with our Google tools (e.g., Mail, Docs, Calendar, Google Classroom etc.) and also work well with other web based tools like Brightspace.

Over the course of 20/21 school year, Designated Early Childhood Educators received new iPads. The iPad has many apps to access our Google tools (check out Self Service on your iPad). Other web based tools (like Brightspace) work in a browser.

Read and Write is thought of as a text-to-speech tool but it can do so much more to support all students in interacting with and organizing their thinking about text.
Snapverter is an add-on to Read and Write that allows you to easily convert a variety of documents and images into machine readable PDFs

Jamboard is an interactive whiteboard that lives in your Drive and can also be easily accessed from a web browser. This collaborative whiteboard is easily accessed as an app, on your browser and it's also on the top of the list of tools in your 3 dot link on Google Meet! Screencastify is a Google Chrome Extension that allows you to create a video of your computer screen or tab and share it with your students.
The extension is easy to use to make your thinking visible to your students.
Includes the option to include video and voice which makes connecting to the learning easier.
Short videos can provide instructions for learning tasks that students can open at their convenience or provide quick, meaningful feedback from their teacher.
How to use Screencastify:
The Screencastify extension tool is always on your tool bar. Videos are time and date stamped and can be titled and organized easily.
Videos can be used to:
say a prayer, read a book aloud (if the author has granted permission for recorded read alouds of their work), or share a class greeting.
explain a concept or provide short instructions for tasks.
Videos can be posted to Google Classroom for students to view on their own time.
Precautions when taking video
Refrain from:
sharing anything that is not directly related to teaching and learning.
discussing personal information and sensitive data (eg. student last names).
