For the most up-to-date and board-specific information on getting started with Brightspace (and beyond), please enrol in the Technology Enabled Learning and Teaching Course for Teachers. This course provides a simplistic checklist for getting started with Brightspace (with video and text instructions for each step) so that you can ensure your students have access to and can navigate within your classroom. The course is also meant to support educators in feeling more comfortable teaching within Brightspace no matter their experience with the platform and its tools. For questions about Brightspace including how to find your course, enrolment, and ensuring students can access learning materials, please contact your TELTc.
Keep in mind...
If you are not already logged in to your board account (or your students are not logged in to their accounts), you will be prompted to log in with Your Full Email Address (@smcdsb.on.ca) and Password: (the same as the one you use to log into a board device/email).
Once you have logged in, you will see the board's homepage or landing page. This is for board announcements, links to support, general learning tools, and direct access to your course shells (classrooms). Students will see the same page when they log in.
To access your classroom, look in the "My Courses" widget on the right of the screen. Click on the current school year tab OR "All" to locate your classroom. All students will already be enrolled.
If Google Classroom is the virtual learning platform you are using with students, it is located in the navigation bar at the top of the Board landing page. Students can click directly on the Google Classroom link to access their Google Classroom landing page that lists all of their Google Classrooms.
