Third Grade Tech Standards
Third grade students are becoming more independent in their use of digital tools. They will build on their foundational skills to become more innovative creators and problem solvers.
Creativity and Innovation:
Students can use technology tools to create original works, express ideas, and solve problems.
Create a series of slides or videos and organize them to present research or convey an idea using programs such as Google Slides, Canva, iMovie, Clips, Keynote and Garageband
Create, edit, and format text on a slide (Slides, Doc, or Freeform)
Copy and paste or import graphics; change their size and position on an original work
Use painting and drawing tools/applications to create and edit work
Use the voiceover tool to improve audio
Communication and Collaboration:
Students can effectively use digital tools to communicate and collaborate with others.
Work with a partner to create projects that use text and various forms of graphics, audio, and video, (with proper citations) to communicate ideas (Imovie, Slides, Freeform, Clips)
Use school-approved tools/programs for communication and collaboration to communicate and exchange ideas(Google Classroom, Google Slides, Docs, etc.)
Use online comments on documents to peer edit
Use different color fonts for each student in a group project
Use airdrop to share files with peers
Research and Information Fluency:
Students can locate, evaluate, and use digital information effectively.
Use age-appropriate technologies to locate, collect, and organize content from media collection for specific purposes, citing sources
Explore reliable websites vs unereliable websites
Perform basic searches on databases
Watch online videos and use the play, pause, rewind, split screen, and forward buttons while taking notes
Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making:
Students use technology resources to solve problems and make informed decisions.
Use Google and other applications to make predictions, solve problems, and draw conclusions
Use coding programs to solve problems
Solve mathematical problems and explain the steps taken to solve the problems with technological programs such as Dreambox.
Apply logical thinking and use technology tools to solve real-world problems with project-based learning
Digital Citizenship:
Students are aware of appropriate behavior and etiquette when using technology
Explain and demonstrate compliance with classroom, and school rules (Acceptable Use Policy) regarding the responsible use of computers and networks
Explain responsible uses of technology and digital information; describe possible consequences of inappropriate use
Explain Fair Use Guidelines for the use of copyrighted materials, and giving credit to media creators
Identify and explain the strategies for the safe and efficient use of computers
Identify cyberbullying and describe strategies to deal with such a situation
Recognize and describe the potential risks and dangers associated with various forms of online communications
Question AI-generated content for accuracy and bias, and understanding its role as a tool rather than a definitive source.
Technology Operations and Concepts:
Students can understand the fundamental concepts of digital tools and how to use them effectively.
Use Google Drive to save documents such as Google doc, google form, google slide, PDF
Submit assignments through Google Classroom
Use menu/toolbar functions (font/size/style/line/spacing/margins) to format, edit and print document
Highlight text, copy and paste text
Copy and paste images within the document and from outside sources (such as screenshots)
Proofread and edit writing using appropriate resources (dictionary, spell checker, grammar, and thesaurus)
Turn on and charge stylus pens
Connect devices (headphones/stylus pens) to Bluetooth
