1st Grade Tech Standards
For first-grade students, the emphasis is on building upon their foundational skills and introducing them to slightly more advanced tasks that encourage creativity, collaboration, and basic digital literacy.
Creativity and Innovation:
Students can use digital tools for creating simple works, exploration, and engaging activities.
Create simple drawings and stories using digital tools/slides (Freeform, drawing programs, Keynote, Pages, Google Slides, etc.)
Explore digital tools and manipulatives to enhance learning
Incorporate interactive games (Dreambox/Lexia)
Communication and Collaboration:
Students can engage in collaborative activities that involve basic digital communication and sharing of ideas.
Collaborate on a digital drawing or painting project using a shared slide
Use collaborative digital tools (Chatterpix, Clips, Google Classroom) to share ideas in videos
Research and Information Fluency:
Students begin to navigate and extract information from digital sources with guidance.
Conduct a basic search for information on a specific topic using an education website/resource
Use the given links through a digital platform and share one interesting fact
Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making:
Students can apply basic critical thinking skills to solve problems using digital tools.
Solve simple puzzles or math games on a computer or tablet
Explore coding programs with and without Photon
Explain the steps taken to find the solution
Digital Citizenship:
Students can develop an understanding of basic online safety practices and responsible digital behavior.
Discuss and role-play scenarios related to online safety such as not sharing personal information, asking for permission before using technology, and identify cyberbullying and strategies to deal with such a situation
Explain classroom, and school rules (Acceptable Use Policy) regarding responsible use of computers and networks.
Technology Operations and Concepts:
Students gain proficiency in using simple digital tools and interfaces for basic formatting and creative expression.
Explore and use basic formatting tools in a word processing or drawing app.
Turn on the iPad and log in
Use icons to open applications on the iPad
Locate and use letter and number keys
Use menu/toolbar functions (e.g. font/size/style/line spacing/ margins) to format and edit documents
Insert and size a graphic in a document
Copy and paste images within the document and from outside sources
