2nd Grade Tech Standards
Second grade students should be still be learning foundational skills, but also developing critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and digital literacy.
Creativity and Innovation:
Students can use digital tools to construct a basic presentation incorporating various multimedia elements.
Create a multimedia presentation using images and text in a presentation tool (like Keynote, Clips, or Pages) on a topic of interest.
Create, edit, and format text on a slide (Slides, Keynote, or Freeform)
Copy and paste or import graphics; change their size and position on an original work
Use painting and drawing tools/applications to create and edit work
Communication and Collaboration:
Students engage in cooperative digital projects requiring communication and teamwork.
Collaborate on shared documents using various techniques such as online comments and using different colors for each student in a group
Collaborate on a digital storytelling project where each student contributes a part of the story using a shared document or presentation.
Research and Information Fluency:
Students can navigate online resources to find and synthesize information for a simple research task.
Conduct a guided online research activity to gather information
summarize findings in a paragraph or series of slides
Watch online videos and use the play, pause, rewind, and forward buttons while taking notes.
Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making:
Students can apply logical reasoning and critical thinking to solve problems using digital tools.
Solve interactive math or logic puzzles on educational platforms or apps (Dreambox, etc.)
Explain the reasoning behind solutions
Explore coding programs with and without Photon
Use virtual manipulatives to solve problems and evaluate solutions
Digital Citizenship:
Students can demonstrate an understanding of responsible and safe online behavior through guided discussions and activities.
Explain and demonstrate compliance with classroom, and school rules (Acceptable Use Policy) regarding the responsible use of computers and networks
Explain responsible uses of technology and digital information; describe possible consequences of inappropriate use
Explain Fair Use Guidelines for the use of copyrighted materials, and give credit to media creators
Identify and explain the strategies for the safe and efficient use of computers
Identify cyberbullying and describe strategies to deal with such a situation
Recognize and describe the potential risks and dangers associated with various forms of online communications
Technology Operations and Concepts:
Students develop proficiency in using digital tools for editing and creating content with some independence.
Use a mouse, finger, or screen pen to manipulate shapes and icons, click on URLs, and checkboxes, and use the scroll bar
Use Google Drive to save documents such as a Google Doc, Google Form, Google Slide, or PDF (introduce)
Submit assignments through Google Classroom (introduce)
Use a word processing application to write, edit, print, and save simple assignments
Highlight text, copy and paste text
Insert and size/crop a graphic/table in a document
Screenshot images and insert them into a Google Doc or Google slide
Proofread and edit writing using appropriate resources (dictionary, spell checker, grammar, and thesaurus) (Introduce)
