The San Luis Valley Housing Coalition (SLVHC) was founded in 1993 in response to the increasing housing needs in the San Luis Valley. The SLVHC is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that has been recognized by the Colorado Division of Housing as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO).
Many families in need of assistance are often not aware of the agencies that can provide services available to fit their needs. The SLVHC is working to inform community members of the assistance that is available to them through brochures, presentations, press releases in the local newspapers & on local radio stations.
Through teamwork and dedication, the SLVHC has improved the quality of life for many San Luis Valley residents. With hard work and ingenuity, the SLVHC will further assist in the enrichment of its communities.
The SLVHC has been dedicated in its efforts to bring safe and affordable housing to our Valley residents through the programs offered including:
- Home Rehabilitation (REHAB): allows eligible persons to make the necessary renovations their home may need without facing up-front costs. Many households who receive a REHAB loan are in need because of the Home Quality Standards.
- Down Payment Assistance (DPA) : allows qualified homebuyers to borrow up to half of their down payment need and/or closing costs. The DPA loan allows the borrower to help fund the down payment from traditional financing with only $1,000 coming from their own pocket. The remaining half of the balance of the down payment need can come from other sources.
Our low-interest loan programs are in high demand not only because the interest rates range from 1% to 5%, but because they also have affordable monthly payments. The SLVHC strives to bring pride back into our communities and help plan for a brighter future.
SLVHC also offers affordable housing in the form of Multi-family and Elderly/Disabled apartment complexes. Both complexes include rent and utilities subsidies from Rural Development to ensure our qualified tenants only pay 30% of their income in rent.
