A big focus of medical training is refining core physician skills: communicating with patients and families, history taking, physical exam, clinical reasoning, verbal summaries of clinical encounters, medical documentation, inter-professional team collaboration, and proactively seeking, examining, and applying feedback as part of continued professional growth. These skills are universal to all medical specialties and things physicians continue to work on throughout their careers. The individual study materials below serve as an introduction or a refresher. We recommend students review theseprior to their first pediatric rotation as having a strong core skill foundation will allow them to get most out of the clinical experience.
