Pupils work towards achieving Level 3 Computing Science outcomes in S2. We introduce them to 3 of the units that we then build upon in S3-S6. Have a look at each of the units below.
In Primary School, many pupils will have experienced using Scratch to build simple programs in a visual, jigsaw block language. We continue using Scratch in S2 and introduce pupils to new terminology for code they will be familiar with. We create simple quizzes and animations using constructs such as selection, iteration, variables and lists.
Pupils will progress onto using a text based programming language in S3 and develop programs in a new language using familiar constructs from S2.
Websites have been fundamental in our lives for many years. Whether we use websites for information, online shopping or entertainment, we look for the websites we use to be fully working and easy to use.
In S2 pupils are introduced to designing and creating webpages. We build our webpages using HTML to add text, images and links.
Our lives rely heavily on data. Storing and organising the data we need and use is a big challenge. The database unit introduces pupils to creating the databases in which digital data is stored.
Pupils will learn to design the structure of a database and how to create a digital database for a range of different organisations.
