This program is a collaborative event between the library and its patrons. Every year the library designs a mural for children and family to come and paint. The purpose is to start off the year with a project that not only celebrates creativity and literature, but also a sense of welcoming and belonging that the library is a place for the community. The design of the mural itself will be drawn on prior by a local artist. The program will take place prior the library opening hours. To start, the library director will introduce the program and unveil the theme and the significance of the mural. Afterwards the children's librarian will read a short picture book that relates to the mural's theme and families will be designated a a section to paint. During the program light snacks and refreshments will be available to participants as well as a painting sheet that is a model of the mural. To close families will sign their name on a designated section of the mural, take a picture together, and be gifted a certificate signed by the Library Director and Mayor to commemorate their involvement.
