Activity Breakdown:

The program itself will revolve around the book The Westing Game by EllenRaskin. The theme overall will be mystery and will promote other mystery titles that this age group will also find enjoyable to read. This registered program will take place on the third Tuesday of January. Promotion for the program will be at least 1-2months before, with participants registering 2 weeks before the date. This early registration will allow for distribution of free copies of the books so that all participants would have had an opportunity to read. The program itself will consist of three main parts including book discussion, trivia, and “escape room”/mystery activity. Participants in the program will enter the storytheater, be greeted, and encouraged to take a seat. Once the program begins the facilitator will introduce themselves and staff, the guidelines, and the program theme. Participants will be encouraged to grab snacks if they have not already and the facilitator will then start the icebreaker and lead into the first portion of the program, book discussion. Participants will be encouraged to have an open-ended conversation about the book or prompted with questions by the facilitator. After this activity, the tweens will be given iPads to be used with the trivia activity. Once the trivia has been completed, the participants will be led into the next activity. The “escape room”/mystery activity will challenge tweens to work together to complete activities to unlock clues and solve a mystery. Finally, children will be reminded to check out books that are displayed, upcoming programs, and have an opportunity to fill out the survey before being dismissed.
