Year 4
The Internet
Session 1
Session 1
In this session we will look at how the internet works and ways to investigate topics using the internet.
First of all, let's just think for a moment about what we think the internet is...
We all use SEARCH ENGINES like Google or Bing to find information on the internet, but how do they work?
What do they do to find information so quickly?
There are other search engines you could use instead of Google. They each work in a slightly different way and can come up with different suggestions. Google and Bing are both made for adults and have adverts to try and make money.
There are some search engines designed to help children find suitable information. We'd like you to find out if they are any better at finding things for YOU.
It is important to know what and why you are researching.
Let's assume you want to find out more about The VIKINGS.
Spend a few minutes thinking with a partner about what you might put into Google, Bing, Swiggle or Kiddle to find out things you don't already know about The VIKINGS.
Make a list:
o Are there any that might bring up adult content? Decide the actions you should take if this happens.
o Are there any that definitely won’t work?
