Students will be given four written words and be asked to identify which of those words is being dictated by the teacher. The assessment will focus on two-syllable words, r-controlled vowels (ar, or, er), long vowel sounds with tricky 'e' (cake, hope, theme, fine, cute), long vowel "e" > 'ee', 'oo' as in book versus 'oo' as in hoop, distinction between "ou" (mouse) and "ow" (cow), and "oi" (boil) and "oy" (boy).
Students will read a decodable short passage and answer comprehension questions, both multiple choice & written.
Students will also be taking a fluency test with oral comprehension questions at the end. This will not be a part of their grade, it is just data to be used throughout the year to track their growth, strengths, and weaknesses.
