Famous Architects
Part I: Create a Google Doc Titled "student name, Famous Architects" and share with zhuangteacher@gmail.com
Choose 10 famous architects and their work (one of them must be a "local", ie. worked/ still working around BC if not Greater Vancouver area)
For each architect:
A short biography (ie, why he/she is famous, the era/time period of their lives/work, some examples of their work, their influence and impact in the architectural realm, etc.)
Choose ONLY ONE of their buildings/structures that you think most representative of that architect include one picture of it and explain:
When/ which time period was the structure designed/created?
Where is this structure?
What is the intended purpose of the structure?
How is that structure categorized in terms of architectural design and style? See ref below:
Give a brief description of the main features and signature of that style/type (define special architectural terminologies if used).
Was that structure's design typical/representative of their time and place (ie, what's socio-economical background when that structure was built?)
Why did you choose this particular structure to represent the architect's work instead of all the others?
Part II: "Quick Sketch" the 10 structures you've chosen above, what is the most striking or unique feature(s) in your eye, your perspective. (Quick Sketch should only take about 30 sec. - max 2 min.)
Part III: Peer Review.
Your write up will be shared with another architecture student this semester. After reading, he/she'll give you a peer evaluation mark out of 100.
In addition, he/she will choose a famous architect from your research for you to develop an in-class presentation (5-minute) as well as a 11" x 17" digital poster. (If the same architect were chosen twice, Mr. Zhuang will decide the tie-breaker)
Part IV: The Poster. Must include a picture of the architect him/herself. The poster must in some way reflect/mimic the architect's design/style (hint: take a look at your "quick sketch"). See example below.
Part V: In-class Presentation. 5-minute, shown using Google Presentation. To showcase your architect and their work and style. Also to showcase your understanding of architecture and your admiration for the great architect's work and life.
