Vienna glacier rule [VGR]
Adam and Bob were best friends., working in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. After Adam got a better job in Vienna he permanently was trying to "pull" his friend.Bob, the glacier by profession. One evening he called ...
- Hi Bob, there is a sign here on the shop window of a glass store&shop. They are looking for a glacier. I talked to the owner and he is willing to interview you within the next two weeks.
Bob said "yes", butnever to appeared.
A year later, Bob was paying a visit to Adam. On their way from the railway station, friends passed the store, and the owner noticed them. He invited them to see his small business.
At the end of the visit, the owner said "Thank you " and passed a $ 100 note to Bill. It's $200 value in 2015.
Bill got confused. "Why, what..." - asked he.
- This is the way how we, in German culture "reinforce" our "thank you" when we appreciate a worker interested to apply. Well, it is gone now, but the culture never goes.
. . .
Jon Pol's note:
I don't like to spoil the impression of this example , but it seems that in North America nothing of this German culture can be found.
And I personally as well as many known of mine, did experience the opposite. Not being paid what agreed or not being paid at all for the job done. Ask me for examples, like Gulu Tadani, a Candadian rentier, etc.
If you know similar or opposite example, please put it down in the "comments" field
And though you might never been and employer, and same with me, but occasionally you hire someone for an odd job, try this Vienna Culture. It will not kill you.
