What is WVS-SWE?

The Willamette Valley Section (WVS) was chartered in 1997 and covers the mid-Willamette Valley from Salem to Eugene. Although our section is relatively small (typically 30-40 paying members) it is extremely vital. Programs have been added every year, so please take a look at our events section. The Girl Scouts program that was started in 2002 has really taken off and we are planning many Girl Scout events this year. We will be hosting our annual National Engineer's Week Banquet, giving monetary awards for the essay contest as well as our scholarship, and coordinating monthly programs for both members and non-members. We provide a full schedule of career guidance (outreach to elementary, middle school, high school and college women) and professional development (programs directed at the professional members) activities.

Please take advantage of the benefits of membership. As a member you will be able to vote in local and national SWE elections. The local section offers excellent opportunities for networking, outreach, and a support group of other women engineers. From SWE National you will receive SWE magazine, free access to over 20 professional devlopment webinars and access to their member directory and career services (resume database, job searching). And don't forget the SWE National Conference (held yearly in the fall)! This is an opportunity to meet women from all over the country including many of the 'first' women engineers. Region J (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska) also has a yearly conference in the spring.

What can SWE do for me?

• Inform young women, their parents, counselors, and the public in general of the qualifications and achievements of women engineers and of the opportunities open to them

• Assist women engineers in readying themselves for a return to active work after temporary retirement

• Serve as a center of information on women in engineering

• Encourage women engineers to attain high levels of educational and professional achievement

• Demonstrate the value of diversity
