President's Note

Welcome to another great year of SWE in the Willamette Valley! Our section has a great lineup of professional development and social events planned for the year, as well as many outreach opportunities. The professional development events include a panel on leadership, a startup companies panel, innovation in the Willamette Valley event, the popular annual Engineers Week Banquet, a panel of OSU researchers, and a tour of ATI. Outreach events include Girl Scout workshops and middle school STEM outreach. We continue to have lunch and dinner meet-and-greets, and will plan an evening or weekend social activity in the spring.

There are many ways to be involved in the section - attend one of these fantastic events, volunteer for an outreach program, or take on a leadership position. If you have an event you would like to see planned, whether that's professional development or outreach-based, please contact someone on the EC. Multiple members have suggested started an "Expanding Your Horizons" event for Corvallis, so if that is your passion, please let us know!

Finally, many of the executive committee officers will be stepping down after this fiscal year (next June). Please seriously consider stepping into an EC role so that our section can continue offering excellent programming year after year. The EC members will not be disappearing and will be around to offer guidance. We all need to rotate into and out of leadership positions as our personal and professional life evolves, and we hope that some of our members will take the reins to lead our section next year.

Yours in SWE,

Amy Welter
