Chick-Tech Benefit Night

Our local Chipotle is hosting a benefit fundraiser on December 6 – come get your dinner and support STEM projects for high school girls. Find the flier here and plan a meet up time with your SWE Colleagues.

SWE 2018 Engineer’s Week Banquet

Please mark your calendars for the 2018 Engineer’s Week banquet! The banquet, sponsored by Willamette Valley Section of SWE, will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018, at 6:00pm at the CH2M Hill Alumni Center on the OSU campus in Corvallis, Oregon. A networking hour will be from 5-6 pm in the lobby, followed by dinner, awards, and our keynote speaker. We are excited to host Michael Foss, a senior manager for Logistics Optimization, Compliance, and Controls at Amazon Transportation Services. Michael is responsible for leading global logistics optimization. In this role he provides leadership to new launch sites and to ensure operations and activities are conducted safely, ethically, and with the highest level of integrity.

WVS-SWE Scholarship Announcement

Do you know a female, high school senior who wants to major in engineering in college? Encourage her to consider applying for one of the following 2018 WVS SWE Scholarships:

    • Georgia-Pacific Scholarship

    • HP, Inc. Corvallis Scholarship

    • Society of women engineers (Willamette Valley Section) Endowment Scholarship

Three $1250 scholarships will be awarded based on academic achievement, school/community involvement, and work experience.

Girl Scouts Bridge Building

WVS-SWE hosted 26 Girl Scouts Troops on Oct 21 as they learned to Build Bridges and earn badges. Girl Scouts not only learn engineering principles at these events – they earn Robotics and other STEM related bridges. Four volunteers made this event possible, if you are interested in helping coordinate or participate in future workshops or engaging with Girl Scouts please contact Dana Algaier (dana.algaier@hp.com).

WVS-SWE Forest Fires Panel Discussion

WVS-SWE will be hosting a panel discussion on Forest Fires on November 29 from 5:30-7:00 pm in Room 112 Kearney Hall at Oregon State University (1491 Campus Way). Panelist will include Dr. Brenda McComb (Emeritus Dean and Professor in the Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society), James Johnston (Research Associate, OSU Forest Engineering) and Kyle Proctor (OSU Grad Student in Biological and Ecological Engineering who was caught in the Eagle Creek Fire this past September).
