The Concert in January

The Concert in January

Our first venture in The Wrocław Masque Project was a concert of Court Entertainment, in the Oratorium Marianum on 19th January 2013.

The Concert was a dynamic presentation of dialogue, dance and music from various masques. The scenes were linked together by a common theme: the jealousy of the goddess Diana, when one of her nymphs wishes to marry.

Elegant nymphs and rough satyrs roam Diana's woods; but Diana's lovely servant Melia runs away with a human lover, only to be captured by wild Lunatics and scheming Witches. The Goddess of the Night and her dark attendants set out to find her, and when she is rescued, the country folk celebrate. Finally, Melia comes to the palace with her lover, and dances with the Lords and Ladies of the English Court.

With text both in Polish and English, we had the wonderful background art of the Oratorium Marianum to decorate our production, and the thrilling sounds of Baroque Future to paint the characters of all our satyrs, lunatics, nymphs and goddesses.

This Timedance Hansa production, with the dancers of the Wrocław University Early Dance Group, musicians of Baroque Future and students of the Wrocław University Philology Department, was directed by Jane Gingell and produced by Konrad Przybycień with Magda Garbacz as Musical Director.

Our next venture will be a production of "Lord Hay's Masque" by Thomas Campion, presented on May 17th, 2013. Look out for us!
