The Cleveland Clinic's Genomic Medicine Institute (GMI) is located on the main campus of the Cleveland Clinic.
The GMI's purpose is to provide the foundation for the 'principles and practice of genomic medicine." It seeks to accomplish these tasks by facilitating
Scholarly activity and research
Academic clinical care
Outreach and education
With the ability to combine the above three, it is the overarching miss of the GMI to provide genomics-based healthcare.
The GMI is composed of three areas of specialization that include Genomics Research, Center for Personalized Genetic Healthcare, the Genomic Medicine Biorepository and the Genomics Core Facility.
Dr. Charis Eng, MD, PHD is the Institute's Director and describes one of the high-priority research area is the "investigation related to and evidence-based practice of cancer genomic medicine."
Genomic research is extremely expensive and potential life-saving treatment is rarely covered by traditional health insurance companies. Furthermore, the results of today's research may not be realized for many years. Therefore, generous individuals, corporations and other generous organizations have given to the advancement of genomic science.
