Well with the start of a new year I decided it would be a great time to share my recent trip to L'Anse Aux Meadows in Newfoundland and what I learned there and since. Those who were in attendance on that cold day, seemed to have enjoyed it and all my photos that I took there. Much to my husband's dismay, he was included in some of those photos!

For those who missed the presentation, and are unaware what L'Anse Aux Meadows is, it is the earliest known site of European settlement in North America. The Norse, or as they are more famously known as, the Vikings, established a settlement on the most north-western point of Newfoundland around 1000 AD (or CE if you prefer). That is almost 500 years before Christopher Columbus!

There are many arguments around the Vikings and how they got there and how far they actually went into North America, but no one can deny that they were in Newfoundland.

If you missed the presentation, I guess you will have to go see L'Anse Aux Meadows for yourself and do your own research on the interesting history of the Viking people and how they ended up in Newfoundland!
