After having missed a few meetings this past year, we swung back into action this past Wednesday under the guidance of our new president, Amanda Black! We welcome Amanda into our little chapter and appreciate her taking the presidency.
Amanada decided to take the opprotunity of the first meeting to do a quick over view of some of the archaeology that has happened locally and in other areas within Ontario with her presentation titled "2011: A Year in Ontario Archaeology". She spoke about how the government has implemented new standards this year in archaeological field work. Everyone was quickly impressed with the size difference of the manuals.
Next Amanda spoke about some of the different local development sites and some of what was found during their archaeological surveys. She spoke about the WEPP/DRIC (Windsor Essex Parkway Project/Detroit River International Crossing), Lauzon Road extention, the new corrections facilities, the new legion, Assumption Church, and various wind turbine sites in the county.
Lastly she spoke about the OAS' annual symposium. This year's was held in Ottawa and was called "Water Ways Through Time", but more importantly she told our members how the 2012 symposium will be held right here in Windsor!! The 2012 symposium will be a collaborative effort between the London and the Windsor chapters of the OAS and it will be concentrating on the War of 1812. More information will come regarding this event, but I can tell you now that it will be held at the Holiday Inn (on Huron Church) and be happening November 9-11, 2012!! So mark your calendars!
