On a cold February night our president, Katherine Graham, once again presented for us when our originally scheduled speaker could no longer present for us. Her presentation was on Herculaneum, the often ignored city that also fell to the destructive might of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
Katherine explained why Pompeii was favoured for excavation even though it was Herculaneum that saw the light of day again first. Let's just say it was a lot easier to excavate, to say the least.
