Time again for turning our thoughts towards summer and Summer Resident Camp at Camp Buck Run. At Summer Resident Camp scouts get to camp with our pack (kids in small cabins/shelters and parents in provided tents sleeping on cots), and attend daily activities such as bows and arrows, BB guns, sports, training at the Nature Pavilion, Boating (canoes and row boats), swimming, and fishing. 3 Meals a day are also included in the costs along with skits, songs, and "Announcements" (you'll understand quickly if you have not been to camp before). This year's theme is the Open Ocean (e.g. sea creatures and pirates :-) ). If your interested and have any questions please give me a call. Camp signup forms (attached) and a $50 non-refundable deposit per person are due by Thursday, February 28th.
Amenities at camp include bath houses with flush toilets and shower stalls. There are electrical outlets in the vicinity of the camp sites and a cell phone charging area in the mess hall. We even had a parent setup their tent with electricity, and a rug last year :-).
For those staying more than the weekend the camp is less crowded and scouts get more time at the already mentioned activities and other activities such as the following:
Nature Hikes
Themed Learning - Instructors will cover topics including wildlife conservation and geology
Optional Conservation Project
Night Hike
Compass and Map Skills
Fire Building - scouts will learn about building different types of fires and their purposes
First Aid - Instruction of basic first aid, and recognition of injuries
Whittling Chip - Bear scouts will be given a knife safety course in order to earn their Whittling Chip
Foil pack camp cooking
Team Sports and Field Games
