Our programming is supported by several committees. Individual committee chair contact information can be found on the About PTA page.
The 8th Grade Continuation Party is one of the PTA’s most anticipated events of the school year, celebrating the hard work and accomplishments of our "graduating" students. The PTA is excited to bring together parents to help plan and host this memorable event, which includes a fun-filled evening of decorations, entertainment, food, slideshows, gift bags, and much more. This special occasion marks a significant milestone for the students and is a way for us to come together and honor their achievements. Volunteers are essential to making this event a success, and we encourage interested individuals to contact us at wjmspta@gmail.com to express interest in assisting or coordinating parts of the event planning. From setup to cleanup, every helping hand makes this celebration unforgettable for our 8th grade students.
School beautification plays a crucial role in creating a positive and welcoming environment for both students and staff. The PTA supports this effort by proposing and funding projects aimed at enhancing the appearance of our campus. This year, the PTA has contributed to hallway and classroom beautification, ensuring that learning spaces are vibrant and inspiring. This year and looking ahead, the PTA aims to support a yearly 8th grade farewell beautification project, celebrating our students’ time as a colt, while leaving a lasting legacy on the school grounds. These projects, and others to come, help foster a sense of pride and ownership within the school community, making it a more enjoyable place to learn and grow.
The PTA plays a vital role in supporting communication and advocacy for both students and staff. Through legislative advocacy, the PTA works to ensure that the voices of the school community are heard through administration and state and national levels, advocating for policies that benefit education. It also liaises with the School Accountability Committee to ensure that school decisions align with the needs of students and staff in our own community. The PTA promotes its initiatives and events through various channels, including a newsletter, school signage, and social media, keeping the community informed and engaged through volunteer opportunities. Additionally, the PTA website serves as a central hub for information, providing easy access to resources and updates, ensuring effective communication and fostering a well-informed school community.
The PTA believes that community building is essential to fostering a strong, supportive school environment where students and staff can thrive. To strengthen our Colt Pride and create lasting connections, we host a variety of engaging events throughout the year. Popsicle Socials and Back to School Nights provide opportunities for families to meet, connect, and get involved in their students middle school life. We offer Business Memberships, encouraging local businesses to support our school while also proudly showcasing the wonderful mountain community businesses that strengthen our small community. Programs like Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) bring family role models into the school to actively engage with students, further building school spirit and safety. Additionally, the PTA actively seeks volunteers to help with events and initiatives, ensuring that every member of the community has a chance to contribute. PTA hopes that it is felt that we play a key role in growing and strengthening our Colt Pride, ensuring our school remains a positive and always growing environment.
The PTA has significantly enhanced its enrichment programs in 2024-2025, providing a variety of activities and initiatives that support both students and staff. The PTA Reflections art program encourages creativity and artistic expression among students, while PTA social events like dances foster a sense of community. Monthly Staff & Student Activities and starting in 2024-2025 school year, Pep-Rallies were introduced to energize and engage the whole school, building school spirit. Additionally, the PTA plays a key role in Fundraising efforts, including grant writing and the restaurant fundraiser program, to support various school needs and projects. The monthly school store offers students a chance to shop, while seasonal sales like Boo Bags and Val-o-grams add festive fun and provide an opportunity for students to think about each other and spread the love.
Health & Wellness program is dedicated to promoting the overall well-being of students, staff, and families within the school community. Through various initiatives, we focus on providing access to healthy foods, encouraging nutritious eating habits, and fostering a supportive environment for mental health and offering resources and support for our families to lead healthier, happier lives.
Membership with Individuals, Families, Staff and Sponsors provides opportunities to contribute to school events, advocate for student needs, and connect with other parents and staff. It’s a meaningful way to make a direct impact on the school environment and ensure that every child has the resources and support they need to thrive. We encourage all families to join and be a part of this important work! Business memberships drives happen in the Fall and Spring.
The PTA actively supports school engagement each month through several key initiatives. Our bulletin boards are regularly updated to showcase school events, student achievements, and important announcements, keeping everyone informed and connected. We also provide classroom and classroom/educator grants to help fund creative projects and resources that enhance learning experiences for students. Additionally, the PTA organizes Teacher Appreciation events monthly to recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of our incredible educators. These efforts help foster a positive and vibrant school community, where both students and staff feel supported and valued.
