The Well Field Preservation Commission was formed in January of 2016. The Commission has researched the well field area, gathered information and asked for public input through meetings, a website and Facebook page, and by conducting a survey. A final report was presented to the public, government officials and community leaders. The report describes the natural and aesthetic resources, past uses, current condition, value, and zoning of the well field area. It makes important recommendations for the future of the well field area.
The Webster Well Field Area is critical green space located on the shore of Irondequoit Bay. With the abandonment of water production, the area commonly known as the “Village of Webster Well Fields” will experience development pressure. The area comprises over 60 acres of land and is the last large green and undeveloped land along Irondequoit Bay.
It has many unique and sensitive environmental characteristics. Preservation of the well field area would allow for public availability to outstanding scenic views and hiking trails and passive access to Irondequoit Bay.
A coordinated effort of public support and grant moneys would allow for purchase of the area ensuring continued access for future generations.
