The area commonly referred to as the “Village Well Field” is comprised of a patchwork of parcels. Of the approximately 60 acres, about 45 acres are Village property. 15 acres of property are owned by a combination of public utilities and private owners. It is bordered by Irondequoit Bay to the west, Dewitt Rd to the east, the “old Town dump” to the south and residential subdivisions to the north and east. In most cases, from a ground inspection, it is difficult to determine the boundaries of the various property owners.
The largest land owner in the well field area is the “Village Water Works”, with parcels that mainly lie adjacent to Irondequoit Bay. The area in which the well fields lie contains many utilities including a WXXI antenna, an RG&E Substation and a MCWA water tank. Both RG&E and MCWA have dedicated easements to allow access to their utilities. Existing residential homes on Dewitt Road, Bayway Drive, Longview Drive, and Oakwood Lane are adjacent to the site.
The Well Field lies north of an old private waste dump, approximately 15.77 acres, owned by Bay Landing LLC. Recently, significant tree clearing and soil movement has occurred on this property.
An extensive series of trails crisscross the well field area, terminating to the east at Dewitt Rd, to the west at the Bay, to the south on the east-west common lot line to the adjacent owner, and to the north at the approximate location of the “Irondequoit Dr” paper street. These trails have numerous spurs that allow walking throughout the property and even down the cliff face to the Bay. The trails tend to skirt dense areas of underbrush and often open into attractive, small clearings.
