In early, 2015, The Mayor of the Village announced at a Board Meeting his desire to sell the property and that he had spoken to a developer. In response, the Webster Citizens Action League (WCAL) formed the Well Field Citizens Committee (WFCC) in March of 2015 to promote the preservation of the well field area. Members of WFCC have contacted the Genesee Land Trust, Nature Conservancy, County of Monroe, Friends of Webster Trails, and Cornell Cooperative Extension to investigate available options. In summer 2015, the WFCC produced a public survey that asked residents to indicate their preference (or rank) for permitted uses allowed under the Open Space Overlay District. This survey noted that some uses could involve the removal of trees. These uses included picnic area, hiking trails/park/nature center, cemeteries, an arboretum, public marinas, boat docks, boat launches, band shell or outdoor theater, miniature golf or golf courses, cultural facilities, such as museums and observatories, nighttime lighting of outdoor recreational activity use, water production – water bottling facility. Again, these uses assume the presence of the Open Space Overlay District, and that it would affect the uses on smaller properties adjacent to or within the Village property. These uses constituted the allowable future uses.
