I completed at Cape Breton University, the Master of Business Administration in Community Economic Development (MBA in CED) Program. I fulfilled the requirements for my MBA (click to view MBA degree)  in May 2009  (click to view transcript of academic record). The curriculum covered economic development, leadership, strategy, governance, and management of change. The MBA in CED aims to develop a new generation of leaders who have strong business management capabilities, well developed collaborative and interpersonal skills, and deep knowledge of accountability, social responsibility, and development issues and practices. Graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills to make a difference in leading organizations in an increasingly global community and economy.

Various course components I feel will be extremely beneficial to assist in increasing my knowledge and skills in the area of community economic development and other fields. An enhanced knowledge in applied research, community organization, leadership training techniques, and comparative development assists in developing my skills to counsel business clients and community organizations in areas such as facilitation, determining training plans, conflict resolution, strategies for mediation, comparing and defining sustainable communities, indicators of sustainable development, and approaches to research and statistics. As well, a better understanding of Economic Geography and Development can assist when dealing with economic areas that are depleted and/or depressed. Studying attributes of a depleted community, assessments, and exploring potential for economic recovery will assist in dealing with communities in crisis. Courses on International Business assisted in enhancing my skills when dealing with business clients who need to examine economic and financial environments both in Canada and internationally. Improved skills in trade and management issues assists when dealing with larger business clients. Enhanced strategic management skills and knowledge in executing business strategies are beneficial when counseling business clients and/or community organizations.

Enhanced training provides more effective tools and knowledge to deal with the upcoming opportunities. Several initiatives are in the developmental stages within Atlantic Canada and enhanced knowledge and skills in community economic development, strategic management, international business and marketing, and governance will provide me and my organization with additional tools to assist while working with businesses and communities to prepare for these changes and effectively deal with challenges and opportunities.

I am a very dedicated and committed individual and plan to put every effort towards utilizing my skills and experience as I believe life-long learning is necessary for individuals, businesses, organizations, and communities as a whole.
