FAA UAS Rules

On October 5, 2018 Congress established new requirements for recreational flying of small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).  The following are links to the new federal requirements, to the FAA Advisory Circular guidance, and to the AMA Safety Handbook:

49 USC SS 44809      This is the actual federal code

FAA AC 191-57B     This is the advisory Circular which provides guidance on the federal requirements

AMA Handbook    This is the safety handbook including guidelines we must use to satisfy requirement 2 below.

The quick summary of the eight requirements for recreational flyers is:

1.Fly Strictly for Recreational Purposes

2.Operate Within CBO (usually AMA) Safety guidelines

3.Maintain Visual Line of Sight

4.Give Way to Manned Aircraft

5.Need ATC Permission for Controlled Airspace

6.400 Foot altitude limit in Class G Airspace

7.Pass an Aeronautical Knowledge Test **

8.Register your aircraft
