Since arriving in Venice, we have hit the ground running. In order to evaluate the tourist stay options, we needed to collect data on the location of the property, cost per night, and occupancy rate. We were able to download all of the scraped data from Inside Airbnb on Venice, and we have started analyzing that. I have been organizing the data by location and listing type and then finding the average cost per night for that criteria. As a group, we have been walking around Venice to find real estate agencies in order to find the information about houses that are for sale in Venice. We've had a few people misunderstand our intentions, and now multiple real estate agencies think that we are actively trying to buy a house.
Before coming to Venice, I traveled to Paris and Geneva where I booked Airbnb's to stay in. As a tourist, I was looking for an entire home or apartment to stay in. I wanted to have somewhere to leave my belongings during the day without having to worry about someone stealing anything. One of the Airbnb's was only a private room even though the listing said entire apartment, and I was terrified the entire night about the host's roommate murdering me in my sleep. Luckily, that didn't happen and none of my stuff got stolen, but it was good insight on what tourists look for in an Airbnb.
