In 2016, The Guardian published an article about Airbnb's affect on Amsterdam, and how the city responded. Amsterdam implemented rules that required Airbnb to notify hosts and guests that a home can only be rented out 60 days out of the year, and to no more than four people at a time. This response is an effort to prevent rising rent prices, disruption of neighborhoods, and the replacement of local shops with tourist shops. The penalty for not adhering to these rules is a 20,000 euro fine. The only issue is that Airbnb won't turn over the names of hosts who do not comply. This is the gap that Inside Airbnb can fill.
This article informs our response to the housing problem in Venice. With Amsterdam as a model, and being able to find the successes and pitfalls of their solution, Stay Venice can alter the solution to benefit Venice.
