Cities around the world are claiming that Airbnb is causing the price of houses to increase, driving locals out of the city center to move to cheaper places. As seen in the figure below, since 2014 the price per square meter in Amsterdam has risen from 3,380 euros to 4,930 euros.

While this statistic doesn’t prove that Airbnb is the cause of housing price increase, a study done in Florida showed that houses in areas that allowed Airbnb cost almost double the houses in areas where Airbnb was banned (Litvak).
