Hi everyone,
Last Friday, the group had the opportunity to meet with Anne Witty, a curator for the Perry MacMillan Arctic Museum at Bowdoin College in Maine. Previous to this she has worked at several other museums and in collaboration with other groups has created several timelines. Knowing this we thought it would be a good idea to meet with her and ask her some questions regarding our timeline application.
In our meeting she told us various things that will be of great use for our application. After using the application for a little while she told that the only problem she was seeing with the application was that some events were very raw and lacked content. In order to solve this we are currently working on parsing L'Enciclopedia Storica di Venezia to give more information to our users.
The other things she told was that, as a scholar, she was starting to doubt some of our events and the only way to prove her was with the use of citations. To achieve this the group is looking to find a way to integrate a citation tool in the application. This tool will allow users to cite each event individually and once the are done looking through the application print the bibliography with all the events and use it on their paper. This will be of particular interest to students and scholars who are studying Venetian history.
All of these suggestions were of great help and we hope to implement these and other solutions into our application to make it more enjoyable for the users.
You can currently see our working application at history.veniceprojectcenter.org
Sincerely,
The Chronology Group
