Good Morning Venice!
We are just waking on this cloudy Monday morning which doesn't vote too well for the Monday Blues. On a more non project related notes, a few members of the Venice Atlas Team took a trip with a large number of the other members of the Venice Project Center to Rome. Overall it was an amazing trip and we got to see a lot of amazing sights. Many of the popular sights we took in included the Saint Peter's Basilica, the Colosseum, and the Roman Forum. Rome is an amazing city and it the Atlas team appreciated seeing it with so many of our colleges also working in Venice from WPI.
To more project related progress we are passing the halfway point in our time in Venice which is a weird feeling. We cannot believe how fast the time is going by, but also proud of the work that is being accomplished with that time. After going through the first half of this experience we feel now we are starting to really become part of the city which will just make the completion of the project more rewarding. In the end it is really a give and take; us students have the opportunity to live as a Venetian and experience a different lifestyle, while in return we work with it to preserve its greatness and leave it better than when we arrive.
Now being the halfway point we have reached points in our team where for the most part we are just doing leg work for our project so there aren't flashy things to report about our progress. I can speak for Petra and myself working on the fountains that we are moving right along on the evaluating on the fountains. We do have to admit the evaluating of the fountains is taking longer than expecting because of all the new fountains we are becoming aware of that need to be visited, but we do feel its very important to see them because this data when compiled will be very useful for the city of Venice. We are very confident that we can finish evaluating known fountains in the city really soon however, which is very exciting because then we are going to move on to visit the islands in the Venetian lagoon.
I cannot speak as well on the other aspects of the project ( a little too techy for my scope of experience) but I am informed that great improvements are continuing on those fronts. Will and Tom are both working diligently around the clock with their eyes drying up from staring at computer screens. Will tells me the Historical Map Explorer is looking better and better with each day and he thinks he is right on target. Tom is still editing and scanning files from the Dorigo book to make sure we have a great final product that will highlight and cause appreciation of the evolution Venice has undergone throughout the centuries. Our sponsors will be pleased with our results.
