We apologize for the large length of time for us to post a blog entry, but we have been extremely busy trying to create the foundations for our proposal. The proposal is really coming along and in the process we have been really pulling together as a project team. We have been working on our Literature Review, Methodology and gathering resources to support our claim. This is important because now that we have the backbone of what our paper will become, it will give us something to build off of.
We have made contact with our project sponsors and have opened a line of communication. We have discussed that they will handle uploading data to the portal and suggested we install Geonode to serve our WMS server to help with the link between our maps and the Atlante della Laguna GIS portal.
Our most promising and exciting idea for an overlay to pursue is to research locations of fountains in Venice, more specifically the islands and lagoon, to do damage assessment on. Using the gathered data we aspire to create an Atlas style GIS overlaying identifying where the fountains are and contain pertinent background.
We also have met with our advisors in order to update them on our progress, bounce ideas of them, and take suggestions on how to further work on our project. We were suggested to really work on the fountains idea as well as dive in the historical cartography aspect of the project. This would involve creating GIS style maps to further complete the images to show how the city of Venice has evolved throughout the centuries as far back as 1100 to modern day.
