Guidelines for Requesting Rec Letters:
When requesting recommendation letters from Dr. B, it is good practice to send an email with
If you like, provide a resume, personal statement or other (not required but helps me to get to know you better. However, the letter will be written based upon how I know you in the context of the stream though.)
Please provide me with this basic info - so that I don't have to look it up (if I don't remember) - so that I can focus my mental energy on writing about you in a more detailed fashion.
year/semester you started in VDS
your progression (Spring, Summer, Fall. or Spring then Fall, If you mentored - which semesters.)
did you do stay on and do Independent Research after the stream year? Did you do any outreach (High School Research Initiative, etc)
FRI, ARI, ELI or more than one
what your target was. (use Genus species name in italics. and then the Enzyme name. e.g. Staphylococcus aureus dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR)
a list of the names of each program
the due dates.
If you have any thoughts about things you did in the stream that reflects or helped mold your character - you are welcome to refresh my memory when sending the request.
Be SURE to include YOUR name in the filenames of any documents you send me. That helps me keep organized. (also - this is good practice for ANY documents you are sending to other people professionally! )
Also, please be sure to send a reminder email a several days before. This is not nagging - but rather, is helpful!

- Please share back some of your info here on the form. We actually put anonymized info in the VDS annual report about where our folks have gone off to to impact the world - so, please share!
