Slam Poetry: The History of Twerking
"I found this video today online and thought it was really interesting. It's performed by 3 people instead of one and they incorporate dancing. I think it could be cool for students doing joint pieces."
Why I Hate School But I Love Education
"I chose this video because it speaks to students in helping them thinking about why they're really at school. This video should get students' minds going in thinking what factors and events in their lives that would truly affect their goals in life. It helped me to realize that not everything I feel obligated to do is not actually an obligation as far as doing what is relevant to my personal life goals. This video is speaks bigger than what effect school has had on heroes and role models."
"I think we should watch this spoken word piece because we can relate to it. I feel that with all the war going on it is relevant to society and America."
Here is one spoken word youtube video that I thought was very touching and inspiring. This video made me think of my future daughter and how I want her to live. Everyone can learn something from this video because everyone has a mother. It is a very good spoken word.
Times I've Been Mistaken For A Girl
"I found this one very inspiring throughout the whole thing but what really made me like it was that the very last line was very powerful. I think we should watch it because it is relatable for a lot of different reasons for different people and because it ends with a very powerful phrase that really stuck with me. "
"I found a spoken word poem that I think would be good to show to the class. It is a social justice issue of countries buying more and more from foreign countries while they complain about foreign people in their country. The woman who created this poem is from Britain but I think that this would also apply to the US and how much we rely on other countries for goods. I think she also does a good job showing her emotions while speeding up and using repetitions to make her point of how much the world relies on other countries. I also chose this piece because I agree with the ideas she is saying. "
I will not let an exam result decide my fate
"This is a very powerful video I saw, that almost every single kid in our entire school system could relate to. While it may not be exactly how you perceive education Mrs. Vasich, it speaks the minds of today's youth. Good debate subject. "
Erykah Badu- Friends, Fans, and Artists Must Meet
"This is a spoken word piece that includes video footage. The poetry alongside the video makes the message much more affective to the technology users it's trying to appeal to. I think it is a very well made video and easy to follow spoken word."
"The reason I chose this poem was because it showed that having OCD isn't a completely bad thing and that the It's also something many people can relate to and see that it depends on how you cope with the condition. And it put across the point that having a condition or disorder, faced with certain situations will make it appear as if you don't at all and based on how you take on life with it."
Why I hate religion but I love Jesus
"I think that this is an extremely good spoken word piece. It puts something that is so central to many peoples lives into a new perspective and it is something that is very relatable to kids in high school. It pushes back on things that kids just hear and believe just because it was said. I really liked this piece because I think it raises a lot of self reflective questions without being judgmental."
"Why did I chose this vide, because it talks about something that society still does not accept, believe that in a normal family there should be a man and woman. Other things mentioned in this video is same sex-marriage and the adoption of children by couples same-sex. It also talks about a united and happy family, problems that every family can have. no matter what gender or sexuality they are."
