Plagiarism is using someone else's ideas or words without giving them credit. This can mean copying another student's work or letting a student copy your work. This can also mean copying and pasting information from the internet without proper citations. You will learn how to cite your sources and avoid plagiarism in your EAP or ENGL 101 class. If you have any questions about plagiarism and citing your sources, please tell your professor and they will help you. If you need more help practicing this, you can sign up for tutoring.
Be sure to ask your professor about this. If your assignments are very similar, your professor will generally consider this cheating unless he/she has specifically asked you to work together on the assignment.
If you are caught plagiarizing, your professor can report this to the Office of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity (OSCAI). This is a very serious issue. If you are found guilty, you will be placed on probation for the next semester and you at risk of being suspended from the university.
