I walk. My secret walks with me. Gently unsynced, on the sea-sprayed pebbly promenade, our steps sound as if someone limped beside me or the wet rubble mocked my gait with brush-stroked snare drum echo. Behave, Secret, nobody needs to know we’re two. But in my wake, like the split tongue of foam that snakes behind a ship, two slender lines unfold. One is my shadow, cast against the sun. The other is my Secret’s, cast against its punctilious star - an angel from d’Abano’s hourly Heptameron. Forgetting someone is the best kept secret.
